Everyone knew there was something odd about Illusion Town but no one ever thought much of it. Just a quirk of nature perhaps. There were many mysteries in the world, after all, so why should a town where things weren't always as they seemed cause worry?
It wasn't until people noticed that Pokémon wouldn't set foot around the town that people grew curious. Pokémon could sense things, after all. No Pidgey flew over the town and no Rattata was seen eating out of garbage bins.
But people still went on with life and tourists were encouraged to just keep their Pokémon in their balls. Sure, you might catch a glimpse of some specter out of the corner of your eye or you might hear the rattling of bones when all alone. These were seen as nothing more than the normal abnormality of Illusion Town.
The Pokémon knew, however, that something was wrong. Those who were taken to Illusion Town in their Pokeballs felt it when the strange presence corrupted the Pokeball and infected the Pokémon themselves. As the Pokémon came down with fevers and breathed their last breaths, they knew the glitch did this to them. That thing that was like a Pokémon yet not, that bit of anomalous data found in the code of life.
Missingno.

((Starting now, news will probably spread about this strange 'disease' that is infected Pok?mon. It won't be very common but rumours inflate the truth, after all. Nothing is known about the cause of the 'disease', though, or how it is passed. Perhaps if you want to find out, you can come down to Illusion Town and poke around. Just remember that you have to have a least your starter!))
